2d/3d integration reached its apex with the development of "Deep Canvas" software. I was interested in freeing the cameras from the constraints of drawn perspectives on flat artwork and creating a look that seamlessly blended background painting with cinematic lighting and animation. Tarzan, as a film, exploited these techniques to their fullest and was used as support to the main character’s emotional journey. As Art Director, I was responsible to make the design and technical aspects integral to the look of the picture, as well as to the telling of the story.
